Shapewear is a specially designed underwear that serves to visually change the shape of the female body. It is usually not used to accentuate an area of the body, like a push-up bra, but to sculpt a woman’s torso and legs. These shapewear pieces are not just lingerie; they are tools that showcase femininity, providing comfort and confidence.
Historically, various types of lingerie have been made in order to visually change the female body based on the standards of the time. Corsets or belts that tie around the torso have been used from Ancient Greece, the Renaissance and Victorian times to the present day. Of course, in earlier times the materials used were much stiffer, tighter and not as kind to the body and skin. But as technology advances with the discovery of new materials and design techniques, shapewear underwear has become friendly to the female body by hugging it without creating that uncomfortable feeling of oppression.
In earlier years, underwear used for body sculpting had been accused of causing health problems for women due to discomfort, difficulty in breathing, poor blood circulation and even pressure on the various abdominal organs (such as the bowel and stomach). The hard materials as well as their design were not very body friendly. However, nowadays, the architecture of a shapewear underwear is perfectly harmonious with the female body and the materials used are completely compatible and skin-friendly allowing the skin to breathe.
At Luna Splendida we design shapewear lingerie with absolute respect to the female body and with the sole purpose of enhancing it. The materials we use are high quality synthetic elastic fabric and spandex.
What types of shapewear are there?
When it comes to shapewear, there are some types that have gained the trust and preference of women over the years. Let’s take a look at the most popular ones:
- Corsets: worn around the waist and focused on making it look slimmer
- Belt: focusing on the lower abdomen and hips
- Tightening underwear: worn as slip underwear, focusing on the abdomen and hips depending on the height reached
- Bodywear: is an underwear that covers the entire torso and chest. It closes underneath with cups, hugs the torso and supports the breasts.
- Underwear shorts: also worn as underwear covering part of the lower abdomen and going lower down to the legs. It focuses on the carving of the legs.
A shapewear underwear, depending on its design, sculpts various points on the body so that the clothes are better shaped. Their purpose is to remain invisible through the clothes while giving the desired effect to your appearance. Usually, they are underwear that women prefer in their most formal appearances so that they can show off a favorite outfit (e.g. a wedding).
What shapewear options can you find at Luna Splendida?
- Briefs with gentle sculpting effect without seams
It’s a brief that goes down to about the belly button with a regular cut back. It has no seams, as it is made with heat sealing, creating an invisible effect under the clothes. The special design with holes on the sides allows the skin to breathe. It is mildly constricting by sculpting the body under the clothes.
- Seamless biker shorts
Similar in construction to the briefs, these biker shorts are ideal for you who want more coverage on the torso and legs. It reaches from the belly button to mid-thigh. Heat sealing on the seams allows for an invisible effect and the special side holes help with comfort and skin breathing.
- Secret Sense shape-wear brief
The Secret Sense medium-tightening high-waisted briefs are for you who want a stronger grip on the torso area. It has different elasticities in the front, side and back to get the perfect fit. The front side is made with double fabric for extra sculpting on the tummy. The back has a center seam and is laser-cut to prevent it from stretching.
- Secret Sense body
The Secret Sense bodysuit acts as a “second skin” as it becomes one with the body. It hugs the torso and the side underwires sculpt the body sideways. You can find it in cups B to D and it has removable straps.
How to select the correct shapewear size
Shapewear follows the sizes of classic underwear briefs. Essentially you can choose the same size as the briefs you are wearing. You don’t have to go up or down a size for best results.
A shapewear can visually change the fit of a garment and make us feel more comfortable in it. I urge you to choose shapewear that respects your body, embraces it and doesn’t oppress it!
With Love,
Eva
